Rabi works in the home and had a successful business plaiting hair.

One day a customer saw the patch on her arm and feared it might be leprosy.

Rabi went straight to the hospital where they confirmed the diagnoses.

Rabi had leprosy.

Before she was diagnosed, Rabi had so many customers she sometimes hid from them to rest! Now, despite cutting prices to attract customers, they still won’t go to her.

Her friends and neighbours began to avoid her. People she thought were her friends gossiped about her, telling her customers that she had leprosy and warning them not to come close to her for fear they would be infected.

Now friends had let her down, and her business was failing.

“I feel very sad and don’t wish to find myself in this condition ever again. The worst thing about leprosy is that you quickly become the topic of discussion on everyone’s lips and wherever you go, people stare at you as if you have committed a hideous crime.” – Rabi

But because of supporters like you, Rabi was given the cure for leprosy!

Thanks to your support, Rabi is receiving counselling and has joined a self-help group where she’s receiving training to improve her business.

Not only that, but The Leprosy Mission visited her village to teach the community about leprosy. Her close family have become more understanding and accepting of her again.
