Your gift, given with love, makes good news possible
Urmila was in so much pain when we first met her.
She had painful, ugly, pus-oozing ulcers, that untreated can leave needless lifelong disability, and soul-wrenching feelings of shame.
Urmila felt helpless …
… when the agony of her leprosy ulcers meant she had to drop out of school.
Urmila felt loneliness …
… when her community teased and rejected her,and said no one would ever marry someone like her.
Urmila felt despair…
… that she might never have a real job, to support herself to be independent.
Urmila received life transforming ulcer treatment. Next step is after care and self-care training. This integrated care heals leprosy ulcers in weeks, rather than the months and years Urmila has suffered.
Urmila will spend time in the Self-Care Unit learning how to cleanse and maintain the health of her feet. She will learn how she can modify her daily household tasks to help keep her safefrom further damage or disability.
What’s exciting is Urmila now volunteers at the self-care unit! When she goes home, she can also join a Self-Help Group or Co-operative so she can start the business she’s always dreamed.
What a blessing that would be!
And there’s more good news!
When you support selected projects in Nepal you provide 5 TIMES the amount of contact screening of children with leprosy, community awareness-raising, Protective Shoes, prosthetics and physiotherapy, Self-Help Groups and Start-Up Business loans to help people with leprosy become independent.
Your gift is worth 5 times more thanks to a grant from the Australian Government
This means your impact is 5 TIMES your personal donation!
Your kindness is supporting our partners to transform current Self-Help Groups for people with leprosy into Co-operatives. These Co-operatives can support people like Urmila to use their skills and enthusiasm to start their own small businesses, so they can become independent … … which in turn wins them respect in the community! These new Co-operatives are Government-registered, and that means they can grow in impact to help more people like Urmila – plus they are supported by the 5:1 Matching Grant.
Urmila’s good news is thanks to kind people like you
Urmila is making fast progress in having the brutal ulcer on her leg finally heal using new ulcer treatment and learning self-care techniques.
Some call this a ‘modern miracle’, and that’s how Urmila feels too. After so many years of suffering, and feeling condemned to a life of loneliness, finally she’s looking forward to the future with hope.
When she goes home, she can join a Self-Help Group or Co-operative so she can make a new life like she’d only ever dreamed of.
This is what happens when you touch the life of someone with leprosy. Instead of feeling ‘nothing’, Urmila can now feel joy!
Thank you for all you do to bring the words of the Psalms to life for people with leprosy:
You protected me from death and kept me from stumbling, so that I would please you and follow the light that leads to life.
Psalms 56:13 (CEV)
