Dr Greg Clarke to lead The Leprosy Mission Australia
The Board of The Leprosy Mission Australia (TLMA) has appointed experienced CEO, Dr Greg Clarke, as the organisation’s next Chief Executive Officer, following the retirement of Mr Sheldon Rankin after nine years in the role.
In announcing the appointment, Board Chair Ms Jennifer Ward said, “We are delighted to welcome Greg to the TLMA family. He brings rich and varied experience in the charity sector, media and publishing, and education, and we look forward to working together to further increase the impact of our work as we pursue our ‘Triple Zero’ vision—zero leprosy transmission, zero new disability, and zero discrimination by 2035.”
Dr Clarke said, “I am thrilled to begin a new chapter with TLMA and honoured to build on the wonderful achievements during Sheldon’s tenure. Leprosy is a terrible disease, but treatment is readily available and it’s fair to say that the end is in sight for one of the oldest recorded human ailments. In particular, just as Jesus gave a special place to caring for people with leprosy, I look forward to urging churches and all compassionate people to help us eliminate it as soon as we can.”
Dr Clarke was the Group CEO of Bible Society Australia for nine years, growing the 200-year-old charity through acquisitions to become a prominent media company, publisher, book retailer and thought leader alongside its global charity work. He trained in the humanities, combined with theological studies, at two of Sydney’s major universities and at Moore Theological College. He also undertook executive education in not-for [1] profit organisational leadership at Harvard Business School and in ethical leadership at the University of Melbourne.
Dr Clarke will commence work with TLMA on 5 September 2023.

The Leprosy Mission Australia farewells retiring CEO with immeasurable thanks
The Leprosy Mission Australia (TLMA) today announced that Mr Sheldon Rankin is retiring as CEO after nine years of dedicated and impactful service.
Board Chair Ms Jennifer Ward said, “On behalf of the Board of The Leprosy Mission Australia, it is with immeasurable thanks that we farewell Sheldon to retirement. Sheldon came to our organisation with an impressive resume leading international for purpose causes over many decades and he has put that experience to outstanding use in leading our mission.”
