1 in 10 people can't get a safe drink of water

Everyone in Australia has access to safe water. We can drink as much as we need. But 10% of the world don’t have that opportunity . They’re forced to drink dirty water they know could make them sick.

In 2010 the Millennium Development Goals—the framework for development goals for 2000-2015—reached its target of supplying 90% of the world with safe drinking water. The goal was met five years earlier than anticipated. It was an awesome achievement, but it still means that millions of people are going without water today.

Estimated percentage of population with access to at least basic water in 2015
Papua New Guinea 0.37
Nigeria 0.67
Timor Leste 0.7
Nepal 0.88
India 0.88
Thailand 0.98
Australia 1
Global 0.9
